How the UCI Mobility and Bike City Forum 2023 helps to maintain Bruges’ cycling legacy

Everything at walking distance
Bruges is easily accessible by car, train, plane or ship. Through Brussels Airport from +300 destinations worldwide.
Once you arrive, all locations and catering facilities are within walking distance in a green environment with fresh air. This is a great asset for your conference, event or incentive in our city. Whether you are visiting the state-of-the-art Bruges, Meeting & Convention Centre (BMCC), the ground-breaking Concertgebouw Brugge (Concert Hall), an elegant five-star hotel or a heritage venue, there will be no need to waste time taking shuttle buses. It’s all about optimising every moment and maximum enjoyment!
Bruges opts for smart and healthy transport:
- charging stations for electric cars and Blue Bike.
- the ambition to become a cycling capital.

Bruges bicycle city
Bruges bicycle city attaches great importance to cycling and makes cycling a priority. Over the years, the city has built on its bicycle image as well as the bicycle infrastructure of the city. Not only do we literally give cyclists more space by creating large cycling zones in Christus-Koning and the city centre, we also build cycling infrastructure every day and adapt the current infrastructure to the new cycling standards of 2022.
With the arrival of the low-traffic area in the center of Bruges, we are also creating space for sustainable travel. Bruges' bicycle policy is also translated into our road policy and building policy. Crossings must be accessible and building complexes must always have sufficient and easily accessible bicycle parking facilities so that the threshold for cycling is literally as low as possible. In the meantime, more and more missing links are being eliminated between the various areas (just think of the connection between Bruges and Zeebrugge and vice versa) and the various sub-municipalities.
We also want to focus more than ever on the aspect of sustainability and the bicycle plays a major role in this. The city aims to achieve a modal shift of 60-40 by 2030: 60% sustainable bicycle trips and 40% motorized trips.

Green Key hotels and venues
Bruges is the destination of choice for those looking for quality, sustainability and innovation. The UNESCO World Heritage City strives to meet these criteria in collaboration with its partners.
Green Key is the largest sustainability label for the tourism and recreation sector in Flanders and is coordinated by GoodPlanet Belgium, with the support of Toerisme Vlaanderen. The new Green Key holders are being recognised for their efforts in sustainable and responsible business practices. For example, they keep their carbon footprint low thanks to energy and water-saving measures, offer local, organic and/or vegetarian options at breakfast, avoid disposable packaging and clean with ecological products.
The following Bruges establishments are proud holders of the label: Martin's Brugge, Martin's Relais, Crowne Plaza Brugge, Eco Fevery Hotel, Relais et Chateaux Hotel Heritage, NH Brugge, Radisson Blu Brugge and BMCC.
