We have entered the final sprint towards the end of the year. It’s time to look back on the year, but let’s not forget to look forward to all the great things in store during the coming year, too. A new year, a new beginning!
IBTM World 2020 in a nutshell
Creeping quietly towards the end of the year is simply not our style! On the contrary – with packed diaries and plenty of enthusiasm, we took part in IBTM World 2020 from 8 – 10 December. It was no longer necessary to simply dream of visiting Bruges; we built a virtual stand so that visitors from all around the world could step into an imaginary Bruges. We proudly informed our visitors about the many projects in our wonderful city, including the new Exhibition and Conference Centre, and we made lots of plans for organising meetings, incentives, conferences and events. There was a great deal of interest, and we feel grateful that it was such a fantastic experience.
Were you unable to take part in this first ever IBTM World virtual event? Are you curious to find out what Bruges’ plans are for the coming year? Get in touch with us for a virtual consultation. We would love to talk to you and we will also be available over the Christmas period.
An action-packed Christmas for Bruges Meeting & Convention Centre
The Bruges Meeting & Convention Centre team took part in IBTM World, too, with their own virtual booth. The plenary assembly hall can already be seen – it seats 510 people in a diagonal auditorium of 514 m² and can also be divided into two separate conference halls each seating 255 people.
Provincial Court dressed up warm for winter
The Provincial Court has been one of Bruges’ hidden treasures for many years, but it will not remain hidden for long. This historical location is undergoing a restoration, after which it will take on a number of new functions, ranging from an ‘agora’ for showcasing the province of West Flanders to a congress and meeting place for various stakeholders. Holding a meeting in a 125 year-old neogothic building is not something you do every day! The building is currently covered in scaffolding as it undergoes a thorough restoration, but its splendour can still be appreciated - a cloth depicting a giant photograph (900m²) has been hung from the gable, ensuring that passers-by can still marvel at the Provincial Court while it is being restored.
Hotel Heritage gets its fifth star
The Bruges hotel sector also had something to celebrate recently, as Hotel Heritage was recently awarded a fifth star! This was a dream-come-true and made all the previous years of hard work worthwhile. Hotel Heritage is Bruges’ second five-star hotel. The hotel, which has 22 bedrooms, is a member of ‘Relais & Chateaux’. As well as ‘Le Mystique’, the hotel’s restaurant, which is open seven days a week, the hotel also boasts a full spa. It is an ideal place to stay when visiting Bruges for a meeting, conference or event.
La Brugeoise, host location for VTM - Love for Music 2021
The creators of the VTM programme were so charmed by the team behind Bruges events location La Brugeoise that they decided to use it to film their new season. For twelve days, La Brugeoise was the scene and host-location for the VTM music special “Liefde voor Muziek, De Reünie” (Love for Music, the Reunion), part of “Rode Neuzen Dag 2020 (Red Nose Day 2020), as well as the entire season of Love for Music, which will be broadcast in spring 2021 on VTM. Lots of musical talent, fabulously atmospheric decor and an amazing crew complete the scene at the exclusive, industrial-style heritage location of La Brugeoise.
