Newsflash: November 2020

It has been clear to all of us for some time now, that we cannot expect a swift return to ‘business as usual’.

At the Visit Bruges Convention Bureau, we would like to focus on the things that we can do and that we are allowed to do. We are working from our home office to build a bright future together with Bruges’ entrepreneurs. The entrepreneurial spirit of West Flanders is still thriving during the pandemic – in fact, it might even be getting a boost as new opportunities arise! Levels of creativity are higher than ever before.

We would like to offer a glimmer of hope and some insight into what the near future may bring. In this newsletter, we will share some great Bruges projects from the past few weeks. If you are eager for more, get in touch with us – planning for the future gives us new energy!

Visit Bruges Convention Bureau will be going virtual for IBTM World 2020

IBTM World 2020 Virtual will be taking place from 8 – 10 December 2020. We even managed to get a great virtual stand (F2). Make an online appointment with the Visit Bruges Convention Bureau – tell us all your requirements and together we can look at the options for organizing a meeting, incentive, congress, seminar and/or team-building event in Bruges.

The Bruges Meeting & Convention Centre will also be at IBTM World Virtual. Visit their virtual stand F62 and register here to book your appointment.

You name it, we make it happen!

Work has not stopped on the new Bruges Meeting & Convention Centre (BMCC) in the centre of Bruges. Work begun on the construction of the steel structure in mid-July and is now nearly complete, meaning that the contours of the new building are now clearly visible. The BMCC is expected to open in January 2022.

The steel structure in figures:

  • 900 tonnes of steel
  • 630 tonnes of structural steel in the exhibition hall
  • 270 tonnes of structural steel in the convention centre
  • the steel structure is mounted 8.7 metres above ground level
  • the steel structures are pre-assembled and painted with fire-resistant paint in the workshop

Hotel De Castillion's win

Hotel De Castillion 4* took part in the television programme ‘Bienvenue à l’hôtel’, TF1’s counterpart to the VTM programme “Met vier in bed”. As with the VTM programme, the hotel once again won first prize! Both the hotel and the City of Bruges were beautifully portrayed, according to Marc and his son-in-law Joachim.
