Bruges is proud to welcome the sixth edition of the Technart conference from 7 until 10 May 2019. More than 400 delegates from all over the world will attend this biannual conference at the medieval St John’s Hospital (Oud Sint-Jan), one of the oldest European infirmaries.

The conference is organized by the University of Antwerp and Musea Brugge (Municipal Museums of Bruges). The conference is offering a scientific forum to present and promote the use of analytical techniques in the field of cultural heritage.

The meeting offers an outstanding opportunity for exchanging knowledge and experience on leading edge developments in cultural heritage analysis. This includes studies on pigments, lithic materials, metals, glass, ceramics, resins and fibres and also chemometrics, forensic applications, art history, archaeology and conservation science.

“We are very pleased to host a congress amidst the stunning Flemish works of art such as the works of Hans Memling and Jan Van Eyck. According to Unesco, Bruges is an outstanding example of a medieval settlement, which has maintained its historic fabric over the centuries, with various original Gothic constructions forming the town's identity” explains Alderman for Tourism Philip Pierins.

“Bruges is home to many museums with internationally renowned collections such as the works by the Flemish Primitives. This means that the city Bruges has a lot to offer for museum congresses”, says Alderman for Culture Nico Blontrock. “We are very pleased that Technart chose Bruges as host city for this congress”.
